Business agent Jorge Mendes intervened to open the door to negotiations between Barcelona and Manchester City in order to complete the Joao Cancelo deal.
Barcelona was linked earlier to the possibility of Cancelo joining the team, but the Catalan club’s financial situation does not allow this.
According to the Spanish newspaper Sport, Mendes, Cancelo’s agent, once again pressed for the deal and promised the Portuguese player would go out on loan from Manchester City, for a price Barcelona could pay.
Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez is aware that Cancelo will give the team a boost given the player’s incredible potential.
The report states that so far this has not been possible because Manchester City has asked for a large sum for the loan, but with the end of the transfer window approaching there could be an agreement between the two parties.
He points out that Cancelo, through his agent, reduced his salary so that he could play with Barcelona, and this step may facilitate negotiations, but the financial differences between the two clubs still exist.
And the newspaper concluded, explaining that everything will depend on Jorge Mendes’ ability to persuade Manchester City to start serious talks with Barcelona, and despite the difficulty of the matter, all possibilities are open.
